2015/07/01 Kelp Forest Reiff Bay

Our first survey was carried out in 2015 with just a go-pro camera attached to the end of a fishing rod. The go-pro was cast from a moving boat and dragged along just above the seabed. The resulting photographs were mostly blurry, and species were tricky to identify. Sara Nason and John McIntyre believed they found a blue mussel reef and sea pens below the Reiff cliffs. Unfortunately, the go-pro was lost, and Sara and John were left wondering. Much of the survey was spent guarding the maerl beds from three dredgers which were targeting the Wester Ross MPA by getting in between the dredgers and the maerl.
